WEATHER AND TRAIL CONDITIONS UPDATE – THIS YEAR’S RACE WILL BE 5K INSTEAD OF 10K:
The kickoff of the Endless Summer Trail Run Series will take place tomorrow night / Wednesday May 21 at Lebanon Hills Park in Eagan, but we are modifying it from a two-loop 10K to a single-loop 5K. Lebanon Hills Park in Eagan has seen a steady rain over the last 24 hours, with rain totals around 1.5″ as of 6PM on Tuesday 5/20. More rain is in the forecast for tonight and tomorrow. In the 12 years we have been hosting races (two per year) at Lebanon Hills Park we have had similar conditions leading into race day. The trails at Lebanon Hills Park are hard packed, drain well, and are very resilient. I just got back from running the race course and aside from a few muddy spots here and there, the race course is in good shape. That said, given the fact that by the time the race happens we will have had over 48 hours of rain, and by running a single loop instead of two we can cut any potential impact in half, we do not need to get greedy – running just one loop will do! We have been in touch with Lebanon Hills Park and have their blessing to proceed.
If we lived in Seattle these cloudy, cool and wet conditions would be the rule vs the exception, and there is plenty of trail running out there! Registered runners, please come on out, it will be a good time! Bring some warm / dry clothes to change into after you finish so you can stick around for pizza, beverages, and community after. We look forward to seeing you all there.
Check-In:
Check-in starts at 5:00 PM – Race Starts at 6:30 PM. We understand that work days can be a little hectic, if you arrive after the start of the race you will not be able to pick up your number / officially start the race, however, you are welcome to get your sticker, go out for a run on your own and join us after.
Can’t Make It?
If you are not going to make the race, you do not need to notify us, we will know you are not running if you do not check in.
Parking:
Firstly, parking is a bit limited, PLEASE TRY TO CARPOOL! There is some parking right at the Jensen Lake Trailhead, however most people will park at our overflow parking location – Chapel Hills Church 4888 Pilot Knob Road | Eagan, MN 55122, this is 1/4 Mile North of the Jensen Lake Trailhead on Pilot Knob Road – See it on the map HERE https://goo.gl/maps/tiOl8 – park at Chapel Hills and walk the bike path South on Pilot Knob to the Jensen Lake Shelter / Start-Finish Area, its easy! Please note that some spots will be held back at the Jensen Trailhead for non-race-related day users.
Weather, Heat & Thunderstorms:
It’s Summer, it can be hot. For races over 5KM we will have a water stop around the half way point. For races 5KM and shorter there will be no water stop. Be sure to carry water if you feel you will need it. We expect that you will use personal judgement in deciding if it is too hot for you to run. The race will be held rain or shine – however, severe weather is a different story. If there is lightning or severe weather we will delay the start of the race. If severe weather persists we will call off the event.
